Now its true that the Yards' focus has always been on floating craft (on water, air or in space), but still the Yards has been known to take on the occaisional project just for fun. So it was with the AT-ST. Late in the Imperial era, the Empire had a variety of walking craft of dubious value. There were the AT-ATs (elephantine walkers that could really only be used on open plains where air or spacecraft would have been entirely more appropriate), AT-PTs (small personnel transports, whose role would have been entirely better served by VTOL air/spacecraft) and the AT-STs (small, two man, bipedal pursuit and patrol walkers). These last, the AT-STs certainly had a role to play on any of the jungle planets of the Empire, where ground patrol was necessary, yet the ground was too rough for wheeled vehicles, and the vegetation too dense to all aircraft to do the work. When two of the lightly armed one man 'L' versions were provided to the Yards for refurbishment as part of a larger lot, the guys just could not help themselves. The unwieldy hip arrangement was replaced with something entirely more flexible, and a 75% movement turntable was added. The uprated version could move faster, and address targets over a wider arc much more effectively. The weapons were also addressed. Originally mounting only dual blaster cannon, the AT-ST L was really only meant for crowd control and light vehicle interdiction. The Yards added tandem Orion Eccentrix missile packs, with integral sensors, a BFG Blaster (Bussard Fusion Gatling) on the starbord side, and a flare launcher on the port. The blaster cannon themselves were uprated to higher standard carried by Ahab's Mark XX rowboats. All in all, a pretty package. Two of these were built, although the Yards' public affairs spokesmen is cagey about where they went, and for whom they were built. These photos are part of the Yards' promotional material in respect of its AT-ST PBY variant, which the Yards is actively marketing to colony worlds' defence forces around the galaxy.
