Taken from the Hendotron Almanac: "New Pacific A sector where the local authorities take a line rather consistent with the Port Block Yards (PBY) ethos known throughout the galaxy, of order, tolerance, and high engineering standards. PBY has several substantial bases in the sector. It is consequently a hive of commercial and starship refit and maintenance activity, meaning that the spacemen servicing industries - pubs, clubs, and houses of lesser repute - are also flourishing. No visit to New Pacific is complete without an afternoon promenade along the service strips of Port Block, San Fransisco, or Elizabeth. Security is fairly open but very responsive. Almost all ships, regardless of their persuasion, ethnic derivation or activities outside the sector, are keen to see the local peace kept for fear that the facilities might become unavailable. Even ships otherwise neutral and passive in every situation have been known to participate actively in suppressing anti-social activity when requested. In this cooperative free-port kind of milieu, one finds diplomats of all kinds sharing exotic coffee in the haute couture boutiques, wrestling with thorny issues of state between their respective superiors, hammering out possibilities that pusillanimous politicians might later unveil with flourish and tub thumping. The conference facilities and security zones on Terminus are regularly closed to the public for one high level intersector conference or another. In contrast, in the tranquil isolation of Patbrick's Pebble, there is a monastery of the Warrior Monks of St Patbrick's, open to visitors seeking peace, wisdom, and advanced weapons training." |
